Japanese automotive manufacturers ranked by 2022 gross sales and manufacturing


Toyota

  • World gross sales: 9,566,961, down 0.5 per cent
  • World manufacturing: 9,026,713, up 5.2 per cent

Japanese manufacturing totalled 2,656,009 (down 7.7 per cent), whereas abroad manufacturing was 6,370,704 (up 11.7 per cent).

Honda

  • World gross sales: N/A
  • World manufacturing: 3,870,161, down 6.4 per cent

Japanese manufacturing totalled 643,973 (up 4.6 per cent), whereas abroad manufacturing was 3,226,188 (down 8.3 per cent) – led by China (1,424,120) and USA (831,908).

Nissan

  • World gross sales: 3,225,549, down 20.7 per cent
  • World manufacturing: 3,250,800, down 9.4 per cent

Japanese manufacturing totalled 559,314 (up 12.6 per cent), whereas abroad manufacturing was 2,691,486 (down 12.9 per cent) – led by China (1,057,598) and USA (538,750).

Suzuki

  • World gross sales: 2,968,494, up 7.4 per cent
  • World manufacturing: 3,172,192, up 10.7 per cent

Japanese manufacturing totalled 919,891 (up 5.1 per cent), whereas abroad manufacturing was 2,252,301 (up 13.1 per cent) – led by Maruti Suzuki India (1,916,040, up 15 per cent).

Daihatsu

  • World gross sales: 766,091, up 5.6 per cent
  • World manufacturing: 1,408,795, up 6.4 per cent

Japanese manufacturing totalled 869,161 (down 1.1 per cent), whereas abroad manufacturing was 539,634 (up 21 per cent).

Mazda

  • World gross sales: 1,116,107, down 13.3 per cent
  • World manufacturing: 1,091,896, up 1.6 per cent

Japanese manufacturing totalled 734,833 (down 0.1 per cent), whereas abroad manufacturing was 2,252,301 (up 13.1 per cent). The CX-5 was Mazda’s top-seller with 365,135 models, down 4.4 per cent.

Mitsubishi

  • World gross sales: N/A
  • World manufacturing: 1,012,408, down 3.5 per cent

Japanese manufacturing totalled 440,762 (up 0.3 per cent), whereas abroad manufacturing was 571,646 (down 6.2 per cent). Thai manufacturing (eg. Triton, Pajero Sport) fell 10.9 per cent to 279,074 models.

Subaru

  • World gross sales: N/A
  • World manufacturing: 848,867, up 14 per cent

Japanese manufacturing totalled 562,601 (up 18.4 per cent), whereas abroad manufacturing was 286,266 (up 6.2 per cent). Total manufacturing progress was the primary such lead to 5 years.
